DVD Update
And about time too, I hear you say.
The master is finished (pending some final testing), so all that remains is to sort out the fiddly legal and logistical stuff so I can get it pressed into thousands of high tech coffee coasters and Christmas tree ornaments for the masses.
I can only guess how long this will take (which I’m not going to and you can’t make me) but in the mean time here’s a quick feature list to ponder over:
- 16 minute making-of thingy (which was in itself several months in the making, and largely responsible for my… erm… delay)
- Complete animatics
- Isolated soundtracks
- Other stuff
- And as an added bonus: the film itself!
Incidentally, the pic above is a mockup - the final may or may not differ in appearance.

WOW excellent news, sounds great.
did you decide on PAL or NTSC in the end? (if both what did you master in, i’d like to by the best possible quality version)
what, no lightwave scenes?
cant wait

The plan is to do both (and to that end I’ve made masters of both), but nothing’s set in stone yet. Or polycarbonate for that matter. They’re both about the same quality, ignoring the inherent minor speed/resolution differences between the two formats.
I did actually contemplate putting the LW scenes on there at one point!

Wowee!! Can’t wait to get that DVD in my hands! Please get some Lightwave material in there, pleeeeeeease!
I’m working on a short myself and have been reading your stuff on this website, pretty amazing reading and an awesome short to boot.
Here is link to my short “making of” site, nothing that comes close to what you’ve accomplished, but hey, it’s been fun so far. I update at least once every couples of weeks.

Anyway, we need the DVD asap. And don’t forget to get some gooey Lightwave goodness in there.
Thanks Chris,
Mike from the States.

Thanks Mike, good luck with the short - interesting modelling technique!
LW content is unlikely for this release I’m afraid, but maybe I’ll consider something like that in future if there’s enough interest.

No problem Chris, I just know anybody who picks up the DVD will appreciate the short as well as any material that;s included.
I don’t know if how I model is a technique worth copying but it works for what I’m doing. The character(s) are undergoing changes and I’ll unveil all four next week.
Thanks again for this site and the upcoming DVD.

hey chris, i promise this won’t be hounding you about the dvd…..honest!
i’m working with hypervoxels for the first time and after looking at how good your clouds are, i’m a bit disheartned with my results.
any pointers or examples for a hypervoxel newbie?

Lots of trial and error! Unsurprisingly, I think I started with one of the “clouds” presets, and tweaked from there. Also I found that that using relatively few particles and letting the Hyper Texture dictate the cloud shape was more successful than trying to define the formations myself using loads of particles (I used Turbulence for the texture by the way).
After you’ve done all that and found that it still looks bad, blend in some hand-painted clouds and use all kinds of crazy filters to try and soften the edges out.
Here ends todays lesson!

Jeff Lew just came out with Killer Bean. Do you have any plans on putting an add on CG Channel? Made me think of the Passenger

Sorry, just been busy moving house. No plans for banner advertisements at the moment. Perhaps I’ll consider such a thing…
